We’re excited to welcome Rachel Sandberg to our team! Rachel brings a grounded, nature-inspired approach to healing, shaped by years of working closely with the land.
As a massage therapist and certified Reiki Master, she blends intuitive energy work with skilled bodywork to create deeply restorative sessions. Drawing from her background in horticulture and plant-based care, she also crafts her own CBD balms and herbal salves to support the body’s natural healing process.
In this Q&A, Rachel shares how she made the shift from tending plants to tending people and how she helps clients reconnect with themselves through touch, energy, and presence.
Q. What inspired your transition from horticulture to massage therapy?
After years of working in horticulture and helping run our family business, I felt called to shift into a path of healing. Reiki and Massage Therapy allowed me to align with my lifelong interest in holistic healing, while offering meaningful, year-round work that nurtures myself and others. While I will still be tending the land and our landscape business, I will be shifting more of my time to tending the body and spirit.
Q. How does your plant-based background influence your work?
My background in horticulture gives me a deep appreciation for nature’s healing power. I create my own herbal balms and salves to complement massage sessions, using plants for their soothing, restorative properties. My background and interest in biology also naturally translated into the science of Massage Therapy, giving me a deeper understanding of how to support the body.
Q. How do you blend Reiki with massage in a typical session?
Reiki is woven subtly into the massage through slow flowing strokes and calming hand placements that encourage deep relaxation. Even with Therapeutic massage, a calm nervous system allows muscles to relax and heal more effectively. Reiki can also be given as a dedicated portion at the beginning or end of the session. Both approaches help release tension and support all of the body systems.
Q. What role does energy play in physical healing?
Stress, pain, muscle tension, and unresolved emotions can disrupt energy flow. By addressing the physical body as well as the energetic field, we can release tension and get energy flowing freely, so that the body is able to repair and restore balance.
Q. How do you stay grounded and balanced as a healer?
I spend as much time as I can outdoors in the woods, trails, and waters, or in my gardens. I also practice my own daily self-care rituals. Working with nature, meditation, and movement keeps me rooted, so I can show up fully present and balanced for my clients.
Q. What’s one thing clients can do at home to support their well-being?
Adding moments of stillness to your day - a few minutes of deep breathing, stepping outside to feel the sun, or pausing with a cup of tea can go such a long way. Breathing especially is so important but most of us are too busy or stressed to do it properly.
Something so simple like deep breathing is so beneficial for the body and mind. It lowers blood pressure, calms the nervous system, improves blood and lymph flow, sends oxygen to the brain, and even engages the core. Spend 5-10 minutes doing deep belly breaths – breathing in through your nose filling your belly, and the breathing out slowly like blowing bubbles.
